Vertex, a leading international Customer Management Outsourcing business with clients in the private and public sectors, announces that Don B. Whaley has joined the company as senior vice president of client services for North America utilities.
In his role, Whaley is responsible for providing strategic guidance on product and marketplace issues for North American utilities clients as well as overseeing the North American client services team to ensure Vertex is meeting or exceeding client satisfaction levels.

Prior to joining Vertex, Whaley was president of Whaley Energy Consulting, where he worked with both the public and private sectors to develop strategies for growth and manage risks in an increasingly complex energy market. In his previous roles, Whaley held senior positions at Coastal Corp., El Paso Energy, Shell Trading and TXU Energy. With the deregulation of the Texas retail electric market, Whaley formed the Texas subsidiary of Direct Energy and led their successful acquisition of CPL Retail and WTU Retail. He served as president of these three operating companies until his departure in late 2004. He led Direct Energy from a standing start in 2002 to the third largest retail electric provider in the state with revenues in excess of $1.5 billion at the time of his departure.
